Relentless Rainfall Disrupts Life in Jaipur, Triggering Waterlogging and Traffic Jams

July 29, 2023

On Saturday, Jaipur experienced incessant rainfall, causing severe disruptions to normal life as many areas faced extensive waterlogging. The district has been battered by heavy rains since Friday night, leading to the submergence of numerous locations, including Sikar Road and Jal Mahal.

The accumulation of rainwater in low-lying areas and roads created significant problems for residents. Tonk Road, SMS hospital premises, B2 Bypass, Jawahar Nagar, Vidyadhar Nagar, and several other places were inundated with rainwater.

The waterlogging also resulted in traffic jams on various roads, notably the Jaipur-Ajmer highway. According to the weather department, the heavy rainfall is expected to persist in Jaipur and Bharatpur on Saturday.

The weather department further warned about a new circulation system that could potentially bring more heavy rainfall activities to the districts of Bharatpur and Jaipur divisions in North-East Rajasthan starting from August 1.

During the 24-hour period until Saturday morning, eastern Rajasthan witnessed heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas. Jaipur recorded the highest rainfall at 16 cm, followed by Lalsot in Dausa with 12 cm rainfall. Bhim (Rajsamand), Atru (Baran), Neem ka Thana (Sikar) recorded 9, 8, and 7 cm rainfall, respectively, while several other regions experienced below 7 cm of rainfall during the same period.
